Stickin to it!

So the last couple days have been rough...I have been Sick again!!!! And wednesday was an exceptional day at work...got bit, kicked 4 times, had to physically remove a youth from the middle of the road he was lying on, stop traffic (secretly hoping people that know me, but don't know what I do everyday would catch a glimpse of what a day looks like for me) All those great tingly feelings I had on the day I worte my last blog have all but dissipated...but instead of going back to the way things were before that night, I am stickin to it! I have felt better in that last 3 weeks than I have in a long time. Its really wierd not being annoyed all the time. I am not on edge, and I can think clearly, I can concentrate better, focus on what others need. I am happy, satisfied, and not stressed out. I can think about stressful things without becoming overwhelmed. I sleep better, I am not "eating my feelings" anymore...I still eat, but because I love it, not cause I need it. :)
I have found myself giggling at bad drivers, and when seemingly good drivers do stupid things, instead of hating them and giving them a dirty look, I feel bad for them because I know that they know they messed up...but ultimately, I just don't care anymore...and its making a big difference in my life! I am looking forward to what comes next, I like feeling this way!

If it's not mine to give...is it mine to give up?

Really confused right now. It is so much easier to listen to other peoples ideas and then regurgitate them as my own. I have been really trying the last while to come up with original thoughts or ideas...well I am sure they are not original ideas, but for me they are. One concept that I have been rolling around in my mind over the past few days is about the concept of "owning things". And along with this comes the idea of owning my life. I guess what happened to calcify this concept in my mind was on Sunday when Sarah and I were talking about generosity and giving (I won't steal her thunder-check out her blog http://www.everylittlewonder.com/ for more on that). What I am stuggling with is the idea of living a "God-centered life" and how ultimately, I do not think that this is right. Our church did a one year focus on this and it was profound and impactful to our church and it was truly important to talk about since I believe a lot of people, myself included were living with "Christianity on the side" or as something we added to our life whenever we wanted. The concept of Christ centered living is the idea that God is at the the center of our life and he will permiate all of the other areas of our life. This is a great way to live...but consider this...If everything is in fact God's anyway...than my life is not my own and I should not be able to make these kinds of distinctions. My language would change and I would refer to this as Gods life that he is allowing me to be a part of, maybe even at the center of, rather than the inverse, which is what I have always lived like. I would treat things much differently, respect it more...like I was borrowing something valuable from a friend, and wanted to give it back in pristine condition. For example, our friends Dave and Katie lent us their ladder while we were doing reno's and painting last spring. It was an awesome ladder too...the ones that can be like 100 different ladders all in one...and it was virtually brand new! So after we had used it very carefully and respectfully, and only for its designed purposes, they asked for it back. I packed it up to take back to them only to discover that we had gotten white paint all over it. I was mortified and embarrassed when I returned it. I was apologetic when I gave it back to them, but their response was simple, and looking back impactful. They both said "when you lend a ladder to someone for painting, you expect to get it back with some paint on it...it's kind of assumed". Hmm, thats fairly true I suppose. So, here in lies the completion of this metaphor- God gives us a life to use ( but its his, not ours) and we should use it for its intended purpose ( thats a whole other blog...and by someone way smarter than me) and eventually he is going to ask for it back...and he will expect there to be some scuffs on it...and that is fine, just so long as we used it well. The point I am making though, is that this life, and by extension, anything we "own" or "have" in this life, does not in fact belong to us! Therefore, it should be much easier to hold loosely to things, and to give things away and not require more all the time. This makes you view life very differently, and I feel as though I am at a begining point of finding out what this looks and feels like. Some people say "life is a gift"...but its not...life is a loan! And the One who gave it to us is going to want it back at some point, and are we going to give it back broken, used up, abused, neglected and empty, or are we going to give it back, filled up, full of experiences and Love and Joy, poured out and filled up again, cracked, but repaired, a well lived life! I hope its the latter, not the former. The problem is...this puts the idea of "giving something up for Lent" in a very different light. But its not a problem for now, its a problem when I am actually living the way in which I have described. Its not a problem now because I can find LOTS of things I don't want to "give up" because they are important to me, but hopefully next year at this time, the disciplines surrounding Lent will be so ingrained in my heart and life, that I will not in fact feel like I am giving something up. but rather, using the life God lent to me to fulfill His purpose for it...living a Full life. Geez my brain hurts! Tell me your thoughts on this... I have little in the way of frame of reference...so I could just be nuts, but I would like to hear YOUR opinion.

Transformation...Day 3

So, its been a couple of days since my alleged "watershed moment" back on Monday night...and whats changed?
Well, there has been no lightning, no rainbows or angellic chourus' singing in the sky. What has there been? Well, I can't really describe it, but I have felt a real sense of peace. I haven't felt this in quite a while. I have been feeling a lot of anxiety about everything...on edge, for no reason, just was. So this new peaceful feeling is counter active to the feelings of un-easiness that I have become accustomed to in the past while. I must say, its still a little un-nerving though. I have found that I am being confronted with habits I have formed, and attitudes I have cultivated that actually make me feel sick...for example; I actually feel like my road rage is diminished. What I mean is that I have become less concerned about other people's driving habits and more concerned about the fact that I have vainty plates on my car...and what does that mean...well it means that I have begun to be concerned with the PEOPLE in those cars, and what is going on for them, and in a wierd way I want my car to become synonomous with Grace. I know this may sound really strange, but this (road rage- and ulitamtley, hate and anger towards people who in my opinion "can't drive) has been a big issue for me, so these feelings while they may appear random are actually quite profound. I have a new found sense of Grace for people who have very recently annoyed the life out of me...And None of this is because of anything I have done...I just decided to let it happen and its happening and its enjoyable. important things that last week in my life stressed me out, are now important, but not stressfull. I know things will work out, and I feel happy about life for the first time in a long time. I know I have a ton of things to do and change, but that task soes not seem overwhelming anymore, I understand I don't have to be an all or nothing thinker...I understand that this is going to be a process...and I quite honestly feel a little sheepish if not stupid that it has taken me the better part of 33 years to figure this out. I feel all cheesy. Really, I hate cheesiness but I feel like singing and hugging people. I can't wait to have the kind of friendships I have been waiting for...True deep lasting friendships...meaningful, two way, mutually beneficial friendships. ( I do have some good friends now, but I can't wait to be the kind of friend I know I can be) I am excited about the future, not scared anymore. I can't wait to see what happens next!

LIVE...NOW

Ok...no more mister cloudy skies, rainy day, poor me, validate me, love me, give me a shot in the arm...its over!
I was fortunate last night to Hear Robb Powell speak at the University of Waterloo's humanities theatre @ The Embassy. It is quite possible that last night was a "watershed moment" for me. A turning point, or a new beginning...is that enough trite phrases for you? Robb was there to speak about Grief, and as a man who tragically lost his 22year old son on Dec 11th 2009, he may know a thing or two about it. What he said about grief was not profound or new information, but the way he spoke about the life of his son, and how he lived his life was damatically profound...at least to me. In particular, one of his other sons spoke about his brother for a moment...and what he said impacted me deeply. He said, "Dave never hated anyone, he always forgave everyone" "He didn't only befriend people he could gain something from" "He loved everyone"

I know that doesn't sound all that profound, but it sounds familiar...like Jesus maybe? I am not saying Dave was perfect, no one was saying that, but what was said was that he live his life fully and squeezed everything he could from everyday. I have heard that message a hundred times, so why did it stick last night...probably because of the last 4 posts I have written...I was ready to hear it I guess. Robb just had a way of saying things that made sense to me...about life, about God, about Dave and how he lived a good life and about being "built for eternity". Then at the end, we sang a song which has been becoming more real to me everytime I sing it..."how he loves" by John Mark Mcmillan and the line in that song that sealed the deal for me "I don't have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way, He Love us, whoa how he loves us"

So thats it... no more wasting time on pettyness, or things that don't really matter no more bitterness, no more anger and unforgiveness no more nonsense! More living, more loving, more giving, more sharing, more transparency, more vulnerability, more JOY, more laughs, more savouring, more appreciating, more life! ...OR AT LEAST THAT S THE GOAL!

Progress-Regress---what about when they look the same

I don't really feel the need to write much more than the title for this, as it seems self to say it all. But really, how do you tell the difference between going forwards or sideways/backwards when the results are painful in every direction?

The Quick Fix!

So if you have read my past couple of blogs, you will undoubtedly have the sense that I need to make some changes in my life. I have been a little wary about sharing those thoughts because then it is concievable that someone could actually hold me accountable for making some of the changes I spoke about. But I am afraid of my own nature in this instance, and what it would tell me to do regarding making "quick fix" solutions to my problems to get by. It was funny because, I was telling Sarah a story yesterday, (I was telling her about my childhood perpensity for sleeping on the floor, regardless of how much it drove my mother crazy, and all the things she tried to make me sleep in my bed. Jack is currently doing this to us!) about something I did as a quick fix that ended really poorly. One of the ways my mother tried to get us to sleep ( My brother and I) IN our beds was buying us a new special comforter. I loved that thing and this actually worked for quite a while. One day however, I accidetally ripped my comforter and I was devistated and did not want to tell my mom that I had ripped my blanket. Certainly, since both of my parents can sew, it would have been a much better solution to tell tham and let them fix it for me...but I of course opted for something else. This was certainly not the first time I had chosen a quick fix solution, but it was the first time the results stood out in my mind as being negative. I decided ( as any intellegent 10 year old would) that the best way to fix a hole in something was obviously a stapler! So I went to my dads office, grabbed his stapler and headed up to my room to begin the repair. I was thourough and used about 20-25 staples to close a 3 inch hole in my blanket. I was truly proud of my accomplishment, and that I had avoided any consequences along the way. I was a champion of innovation...I was my generations RedGreen, and it had taken like 45 seconds to fix! Fast forward couple of weeks...middle of the night...I wake up in the middle of the night screaming and writhing in pain. I was calling out for my mom. She came in and asked me "what on earth is wrong" My foot hurts, I don't know what is wrong with it...it hurts really bad!! So she inspected it..."what the heck is this, you have a staple under your toenail...how did you do this...why is there staples in your blanket...what is wrong with you...did you staple your blanket...answer me..." I told her what I had done and she did not lecture me about how stupid I was, or what a bad descision it was to try and fix it myself...she simply removed the staple, got me a new blanket and we all went back to sleep. Her silence was golden, and I was accutley aware that I had just learned the first of many lessons about why you should not use a quick fix to solve your problems...my only hope is that I have learned this lesson, and that I take my time to fix the things in my life that needs fixing...no STAPLES!

Winter Fly

Have you ever come across a fly in the middle of January? I did today, and I know I have had this thought before but I also thought, well now I have somewhere to put this thought...in my blog!
Anyway, a fly in the winter looks the same as a fly in the summer...they act the same and land in pretty much the same places as they do in the summer. But there is one significant difference between the January fly and his July cousin. Winter flies are much much slower to react to movement. It is far easier to kill a fly in the winter based soley on its much slover movements.I am not sure of the exact science science behind this, though I could hypothesize, but that is really not what this is about. My thought was this. I am a winter fly. I am slow to react. I am Lazy...and I feel like I am somehow out of place, or be better off in another time or place...I don't really mean physically, ( alothough I do feel slower and dumber in the winter) but my being...my character, my insides. And not just in winter, but always. I am slow to react to things that should spur me to action quickly, I feel lost at times and unsure of how to act. I could I suppose, just follow the crowd, and at times if I did this I would likely be further ahead, but instead, I sit atop my moral high horse and simply refuse to move...regardsless of the fact there is a giant hand coming towards me, threatening to squash my very existance. ( I know this sounds wierd but hang in there) This is of course not a literal hand, but rather a hand of indifference, apathy and neglect threatening to render me motionless and unable to move ever again . I know, that if I can not soon make a change in position ( position of my heart and mind) that I will be forever incapacitated and stuck in this listless ditch that I have created for myself to hide in! I must change, I must adapt, I must, so that I can move forward in life, so I can truly experience and live life...fully, the way it was intended. Not happy and ignorant, full of all the things life has to offer...not busy, firefighting pulling my hair out, stressed, but full the way God meant it to be. I don't want to be a winter fly anymore! If I can make it until spring ( a new beginning in my life) I know I will be ok...until then, I will keep buzzing around...

Lamentations

What do I have to be so sad about? I have everything I need and more! I am not currently trapped under a collapsed building in Haiti...and I don't have to fight in a winnerless war that I don't believe in. I am free, fed, indulged, catered to, Loved, Blessed...and I still find reasons to complain about my life. How pathetic is that! I am not (just) being self-depricating here either...I would not have to look far to find others like me...some more satisfied and content, but still others, less content, more bitter and seemingly entitled. Why...we have SO much...and still "need"more. I am Never satisfied. I will feel better when I have a bigger house...so I will have room for all my stuff, plus the new stuff that I dont have yet, but surely at somepoint, I will pull out the old Capital One card and bow once again to a stupid, self-centered whim! Will that do it? Of course it will...thats all I need now...until I have it of course. Maybe I am sad because it the midst of all the hurt and pain that surrounds us ( which I manage to block out most of the time, until something so disasterous happens, that I can't ignore it anymore) I have realized...that these, truly and unfortunaely ARE my inside thoughts...I would not say them aloud, but they are in there...along with my Western/NorthAmerican/Egocentric "I deserve better" sense of entitlement...And it makes me sad...and a little nausiated. Maybe thats what this pit in my stomach is. My problem at this point continues to be that I am becoming (painfully) aware of my self in recent weeks/months but am equally ignorant of how to start to fix these "thinking errors", and sicknesses. What do I need to do to change it...Sell all my things...move into a small apartment...give away my money...maybe. Cipher from the Matrix said it best..."Ignorance is bliss" I was definately happier NOT knowing all this crap about myself. I didn't always feel fulfilled neccesarily, but I certainly did not have the sense of self loathing that now drips off of me. I was insecure, but not nearly as much as I am now, fearing That God, my family, my wife , my son, won't love or respect me if they knew the truth. But I can't keep living like this...something has got to change...How do I stop being so self indulgent...God help me! and if you are reading this...maybe you could help too!

Problem solver

How do you slove a problem like Maria?

Yo, gotta problem? I'll solve it, check out the beat while the DJ revolves it!

Ok thats all the "problem" songs I know...but seriously...I WILL solve your problems if you have some.

At least thats what I believe, and yet today, I sit here, somewhat overwhelmed...and I can't even seem to solve the problem of why I am overwhelmed, much less, all the actual problems that seem so big and heavy to me today. Rarely do I feel better, then when I have come up with a solution to a seemingly unsolvable quandry. I get a high from it. It has taken me a long time to understand in my marriage, that is NOT (or rarely) what Sarah wants from me, usually just a listening, sympathetic ear. I love pressure and "being the hero" who comes up with a brilliant idea to save the day...and yet...today...nothing. Its wierd, I feel scared and anxious, like i have a big pit in my stomach...like I might throw up (If I had gotten a lunch break or eaten anything) What can I do to help a friend making perhaps the most difficult descision of her life...who seems somewhat frustrated at this point with my silence. What do I tell my friend who is seemingly watching his young father best friend rapidly die of cancer? How can I help kids who don't or can't accept my help? What do I say or feel about church I once lived for and its current state of being? How can I make less money and still climb out of debt? How can I be a better Father? How can I be a better husband, someone who really understands the deep inner workings of my wife and what she needs...how can I be a better friend...why the hell is this bringing tears to my eyes! Thats better...I think It was just something in my eye!

Inspired

As apparently several other members of my family were, I was inspired by my Wife to start blogging again. I am going to take a different approach, perhaps a more serious/reflective tone than previous posts...although I won't shy away from my rants should there need to be one!
I have never been one to be vulnerable with people in general. If you know me well( I see the irony in this statement...believe me!), you will know this to be true. I am guarded and keep people at a distance, mostly using sarcasm and humor. This has seemingly worked for me for a long time. The problem however, is that as I get older and realize that I have few deep friendships, or people who really know me...and it seems now more than ever, I want that...I want people to see through me... to really know me...but I have become TOO good at keeping people at a distance and am more convinced than ever...that I don't know how to be friends with people. It is a sad realization. I have had suspiscion of this fact for some time now, but have usually dismissed it because it was too uncomfortable to think about. SO now what...its out there...

NYC

SO my new favorite place in the world is New York City. What a place! I have always seen it on TV and in movies and had perceptions of it...but man, once you are standing in the middle of a wild scene in Timesquare at 430 am...thos all go away...and you just take it in and wonder why you have waited so long to come here? It is surreal and the most real thing you could imagine...walking down the street looking at a 200 foot TV screen in the middle of the street...while being offered any drug, knock off Fendi bag, rolex watch or "favour" you can imagine! ("smoke, crack or coke...try before you buy baby") The other thing I have always heard about it the crazy traffic and the awful cab drivers. Let me say this...NYC cabbies are the BEST drivers on the planet...and if my socialwork career doesn't pan out...I am moving to New York to drive a cab!! WOW, what an experience...It was amazing...timidity will be eaten alive...only the strong will survive...nerves of steel , flawless timing and execution are a must...it is just amazing. I Love it! I was totally in my element...it was better than any videogame I have ever played...
Imagine the most cars you have ever seen in one place, you get cut off 10 times a minute and you return the favour to others...but there is no road rage and in the 2 days I was there...not even 1 fenderbender!! why...because noone who was driving was on a phone or texting or doing makeup...everyone was DRIVING!! it was like a mecca for drivers...real drivers, not people who use a car for transportation, but those of us who LOVE to be behind the wheel! I learned a lot...never have I appreciated being cutoff before, but my thoughts changed from.."jerk, you cut me off" to "nice move man" It was again surreal...and wonderful!! I cant wait to go back!! I love it!
Talk to me about your NYC experience!!

I LOVE NEW YORK!!! ( except the yankees!! GO RED SOX!! )

SIGNS

Have you ever been driving down the street and seen a funny road sign...or read a sign that didn't make sense...or seemed offensive in some way? I feel like I have seen a lot of these lately and I am not sure why. I drove past a big church on Northfield drive and read their flashing marquee sign... "we now have a supervised nursery"... seriously? what the heck did you have before??? like, an unsupervised nursery...just drop your kid off into our little darwinistic room and if your child has the right stuff...you can pick them up after church...but if not...well, I guess it wasn't meant to be. Weird right? And actually I had a discussion about this particular sign with a friend yesterday...and the saw it last night...have you seen this sign?
SLOW CHILDREN AHEAD Now of course this means...PLEASE DRIVE SLOW...There are children playing ahead. But that is NOT what it said...it said SLOW CHILDREN AHEAD...how do your kids feel when they read this sign...poor little mongos! ( Matt Dylan...something about Mary) Then I drove past a hotel in downtown Kitchener to read their sign bragging about their "Heated Poo " That snothing to brag about...sometimes, depending on what I have been eating ...mine is Hot...burning in fact!!!!
Have you seen any funny signs? Tell me about them and we will have a laugh..." We are laughing...laughing together"
Remember...You don't have a coat even! ...You don't Even have a coat !! (proline commercial)

Sorry for no blog (and this blog)

First off, I would like to apologize for not posting anything, I have had lots of thoughts...just no time to sit and write them.

Anyway, I am now sitting here in front of my computer with a bit of free time...and here I sit...nothing to say...lets just wait together for a moment and see what comes out...Oh well here is something! My whole family is taking a vacation together in november ( I cant wait by the way...gonna be a blast) and we are in the midst of looking for flights and stuff ( well my brother is anyway) and to do this you need all of your family's names and such. Now, who of you out there, having had a sibling for 31 years or even close to that can tell me what that siblings middle name is? I can tell you all of my siblings middle names...including my in laws...and most of their kids as well ( I think I only missed 2) My brother however, could not seem to draw from the vast resources of his brain to come up with my middle name. My middle name is Gary...after my DAD...also Gary. My brothers middle name is ....ummm.....GARY!!!! Now, I know he will defend himself by saying I have a second middle name, and he is right, but honestly after 31 years...you really should know these things!! Why do we have middle names...can someone please leave a comment and let me know where this tradition started...It seems that most middle names are a "shout out" to something or someone...a great aunt, favourite author or actor...a mom or dad. The thing that is wierd to me is, that these names are not importatnt enough to be given out as a first name...just stuffed in there as an afterthought...usually they don't even sound good...they are just there...being annoying! I don't know, anyway, someone let me know why we do this and I will be much happier. Wow, this is a super lame blog...who writes this crap and expects people to read it...this is total garbage and I am very sorry that you have wasted the last few minutes of your life reading it. The only good thing is the title...and I am going to go change it in a minute to something else, there...I added a bit to the title..now its more accurate. Man, what self indulgent nonsense...what gives me the right to make fun of middle names just because my son has the coolest names ever!! Wow where did that come from...boy I am arrogant some times! Well this really needs to end and I will try again another day to write something amusing...or interesting...or just neutral but not annoying....because this blog sucks!!

No speaky english

My dear mother sends me a lot of annoying forwards ( mostly they are annoying becuas by the time she sends them to me I have already recieved them 4 or 5 times) but occasionally there is a new gem in there. This happened today with her "tenjooberrymuds" forward...I seriously almost threw up I was laughing so hard because I have HAD THAT converstion!!! Anyway, I will attach it at the bottom so you can read it...maybe it was only funny because it came so early in the morning, but I doubt it...it is funny! You need to read it quietly once then read it again aloud with any kind of accent! It will make your day!.
Ok,on with my rant! I admit that while it can be frustrating at times speaking with someone that does not primarily speak english, here in Canada it seems to be more the norm than an exception, but I understand and am glad we live in a country that embraces other cultures as well as we do. What frustrates ME, is speaking with someone who has spent their entire life in Canada, who has progressed through our school system and for some reason STILL cannot speak english!! You may not notice it at first, but listen close and you will begin to hear the delightful sounds of people who make more money than you, using words without meaning...or perhaps words with meaning...completley out of context! What do I mean? Well for instance...what is an "explanation point" I guess that's what you would use at the end of a sentence that needs further explanation??? What about ( there is actually an episode of "friends" about this one) Supposably...supposably...supposably??? That is not a word! It sounds like a word...kind of! For anyone reading this right now saying...that is a word...isn't it? The word you are after is supposedly...THERE IS NO B!! and another thing... "Y O U'R E means you are...Y O U R means your!" One that comes up at my work is the "word" planful. This is not a word!! This one is just annoying because it's lazy...just use real words to make your point ok!(calculating or something like that...Planful is NOT a word!) I also love it when people use the wrong trite phrase to describe something...for example, someone very close to me who shall remain nameless almost without exception uses the phrase "touch and go" when trying to relay the sentiment "hit and miss" as in, " the service in that restaurant is hit and miss" but that one is just cute...because I know what she means!! But I would have to say that my all time personal favorite would have to be...irregardless!!! Oh my, when someone says this word, I lose my mind...seriously the funniest thing about it, is that when you put the "ir" in front of regardless...it actually "eats" the word, rendering it useless in the sentence. Did you people not take english in highschool? I am by no means an english major...a good student...or any authority on language, but I am proud to say...I can speak my native tounge without sounding like too much of an idiot...opinions aside!!

Have a nice Day!! (irregardless of the weather ;-p )

Locals Only !

Anyone who attended the Canada Day celebrations at columbia lake yesterday will have had the misfortune of being audibly assaulted by something called "the guys" ( I actually looked them up online...talk about false advertising) I knew we were in for a treat when I saw the drummer setting up his kit( you can tell how a band is gonna be by how the drums look...just so ya know) He was wearing black leather gloves and a chest open white see through tuxedo shirt...I said to my friend Curtis...this is gonna suck! He said maybe we should move back(we were close to the stage)but I declined as I felt that this was something I was going to need to see to believe. What I saw was nothing short of astounding...What I saw was "mindbottling"(catch the refernece) What I saw was a band who have gone to great lengths to plan a rock and roll show...it had all the the right components...it had a theme ( which was german military of some kind) it had gimics, sunglasses, a snowball(all of the musicians traded instruments and positions) a drum solo...it was well thought and planned out...it was a spectacle...and there was only one issue!

*********DISCLAIMER- I do not know these people personally and do not wish to pass judgement on them as human beings ...simply as performers...PAID musicians***************

THEY HAD NO MUSICAL TALENT WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sat in disbelief as I listened to music that could have been better perfromed by chimpanzees with instuments. It was Brutal. The drummer did a drum solo that was not nearly as good as the one that my son did ( he is two) and at times I really thought that this whole thing was a spoof that just wasn't funny...but I was wrong... It was for real and it was right there in front of me. I thought...wow...this is the worst thing I have ever seen or heard EVER...but then it happened...IT GOT WORSE! A wierd Germanish?? rock band started to play (very badly of course) "Billy Jean" by Michael Jackson! No Joke, I stood up and screamed NOOO! Sarah of course yelled at me for this because she said people probably thought that I was booing the song...in hindsight I realized she was right so I made it clear to those around me that I was booing the band...not the song! ( No more hating on MJ...I love his music forever) I was actually offended that they would try and play this song, thankfully though, they only just played the intro riff over and over for a minute and did not attempt to sing it! ( this proves that they are not in fact stupid...they knew better) So I was now offended and assaulted and I thought well, that is as bad as it gets...I was wrong again...As if they did not suck bad enough at their own instruments...they felt the need to show us how much they sucked at playing each others instruments. They switched it up...The drummer became the lead singer/keyboard player...I am laughing right now because I still can't believe I saw all of this...He honestly can not play piano...he literally just banged on the keyboard at one point, and most of the rest of the time he just held down 1 note and played with the pitch bender...it was amazing! Curtis said to me ...I bet they will do some stupid bow at the end...I said...no way, they can't be that arrogant...No one is cheering. much lees clapping along...they won't do tha...they did...they bowed! to the three people brave enough to applaud this debacle...they bowed!!! Anyway, I say all of that to say...Could we not find anyone better to celebrate our country??? I hate the tragically hip a lot but I would rather have IPOD headphone playing only Tragiacally hip songs Stapled to my ears than ever to experience something like that again!!
SO, sorry that wasn't humorous...but this was no laughing matter!!
I will try and write something more upbeat later!!
Have a good day!!

Seriously?!!

Ok, so we live in Canada (happy Canada day by the way) and we experience a wide array of hazzardous winter driving conditions which cause people to adjust their driving to fit their own comfort level. This is ok...its ok to drive slow when its icy and its ok to take up more than one lane if its really snowy and you can't see the lines...this is ok! However...What is it about a little bit of rain that so badly incapacitates drivers that they can no longer function in any sort of normal driving manner?...Seriously?!! I know its not everyone, but there are a lot of you out there...constantly riding your breaks, driving 45 on the expressway, Straddling both lanes in the middle of King street at 520PM so you can???avoid puddles maybe...or maybe you are afraid of hydroplaning...well put yourself at ease because you can't hydroplane while going 4 mph!..Seriuosly! Other people pulling out of a driveway in the middle of the lane way and reusing to signal because they are so terrified of this deadly monsoon that they can't bear to pry their white knuckles off of their steering wheel to turn on their blinker...Seriously?!! On a different yet somewhat related note...what is with all the rain (if someone says is global climate change...i will kill a kitten) I mean where do I live, freakin Seattle...well no obvioulsly I don't...first off I am Canadian and also I would have no real reason to live in seattle and I understand that its quite rainy there...so...yah...no I don't live in Seattle...I live in Waterloo...The worlds most intellegent community...not the worlds rainiest bad driveriest community(I know thats {driveriest} not a word, but when you reside in the worlds most intellegent community, you are allowed to make up your own words and they just become New words...its in the charter...look it up!! www.worldsmostintellegentcommunity.com/makeupnewwordsifyouwant+=youareasucker)

Anyway, if you want to drive a little slower in the rain...fine, do it in your own lane while signaling appropriatley...oh and Don't do it in front of me...I am in charge of road justice ! ( although Sarah tells me I am not all the time...but she doesn't know that I actually AM in charge of that...I work for the government...its pretty hush hush so if you could, you know...keep it to yourself...that would be cool but like, don't worry if you let it slip...it's not like TOP top secret, you know...its just on the down low)

Rain Rain Go Away, Happy Canada Day!!

Play ball!

So it occured to me last night, that out of shape , middle aged men take their mens christian league slo pitch a little to seriously! I play in the afforementioned league and have at times found myself believing that the softball game in which I am playing will have a profound impact on the fabric of my life...you can ask my old teammates, I have literally screamed at old men who were umpiring like it somehow mattered if we won or lost...I laugh now...at just how stupid I am! Not sure what all that was about, but just had to say it! Anyway, So yesterday, after work I was at home with Jack and Sarah. Jack is potty training right now, and doing fairly well I might add! He is aware of when he has to go and usually tells us so we can get him to the potty. Well yesterday, he triumphantly announced.."I have to poop!" and he ran for the washroom. I tore myself away from the riveting episode of Yo Gabba Gabba on "treehouse" and headed for the washroom. As I was heading through the kitchen, I could hear Jacks diaper coming off and assumed he was getting ready to poop, but as I rounded the corner he was standing there naked and threw his diaper to me. So, as any good "christian mens slo pitch league player" would, I of course used both hands and caught the flying diaper. The problems began when I realized that while my wonderful son is excelling at potty training, his language skills need help. " I have to poop " is what he said...What he should have in fact announced was " I have already pooped and require you to change my heavily soiled, terribly smelly, and oddly runny diaper please " This slight miscommunication made a real mess on my shirt!! Oh well...it not the first time I have been crapped on and I am sure it won't be the last!
Have a good day!

Number 1

Ok...so here we go! This past weekend while we were driving to a wedding, Sarah ( my lovely wife) told me I should start a blog...mostly I think this is because she is tired of listening to me blab and this way she can pick and chose what she wants to hear! ( but that is just conjecture) I have a lot of opinions on lots of topics ranging from bad driving to Euthanasia and I hope you will find some humor in something I might say...

So I feel like it is timely to share my feelings on the recent passing of "the king of Pop" Michael Jackson.

WOW...seriously...can I just say...WOW! I am sure that his death has greatly impacted some people close to him, (as death does for most of us) but the fact that we are obsessed with so much about his death (911 calls...doctor interviews etc) is really pathetic. I cahllenged one of my students today ( who was unable to complete work due to being distraught over the death of the superstar) that if she had no access to media, that her life would not have changed one little bit! Seriously...Michael Jackson has been nothing but a sideshow for many years. Now I will of course acknowledge his enourmous talent, you would be a fool to discount that, but really, what have you done for me lately! He has been a circus sideshow, with all the drama surrounding him...and I for one am glad that it is over..for him...for me...for us all. He was the ultimate example of not going out with a bang! he should have retired 10 years ago, then maybe I would feel differently, perhaps not, I don't know, but I would have at least felt like, Maybe we are missing out on "what might have been" in his career, but now, I feel like we have avoided the painfully slow, despeartly clinging to a career, re hash the past and exploit past successes for present fame! (ala the rolling stones...give it up...and put a damn shirt on!) Anyway, lets be done with that and move on with our lives... if we can!
